Agriculture Road Map
Emphasizing the Rainbow Revolution, the Government of Bihar has focused on increasing
production of grains, pulses, vegetables, fruits, milk, fish, and animal husbandry.
To achieve this goal, a comprehensive strategy called the "Agriculture Road Map"
was prepared in 2008 to increase farmers' income and promote their welfare.
So far, four Agriculture Road Maps have been implemented, integrating twelve departments
related to agriculture and allied sectors. These initiatives have significantly strengthened
agricultural productivity and rural livelihoods in Bihar.
Fourth Agriculture Road Map (2023 – 2028)
The Fourth Agriculture Road Map was launched on October 18, 2023,
by Honorable President Smt. Droupadi Murmu.
An expenditure of Rs 1.62 lakh crore has been proposed for agriculture
and allied sectors over five years.
The roadmap emphasizes sensor-based technology and Precision Agriculture,
improved varieties of pulses, oilseeds, and millets, and accelerated research
and development using modern technologies. Incentive-based innovation initiatives
aim to strengthen agricultural research continuity and technology-driven farming solutions.

Third Agriculture Road Map (2017 – 2022)
Launched on November 9, 2017, by Honorable President Shri Ram Nath Kovind,
this roadmap allocated Rs 1.54 lakh crore for agriculture and allied sectors,
including food processing, irrigation, flood protection, and dairy development.
Special focus was given to organic farming through organic corridors
along the river Ganga and development of a 1500 MW agriculture power network.
Second Agriculture Road Map (2012 – 2017)
The second agriculture road map was inaugurated on October 3, 2012,
by the Honorable President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee.
It aimed to ensure food and nutritional security and enhance farmers’ income.
Key initiatives included improved power supply, expanded storage facilities,
promotion of food processing industries, and development of warehouses
to make Bihar self-reliant and export-oriented in agriculture.
First Agriculture Road Map (2008 – 2012)
The first agriculture road map introduced programs such as the Seed Extension Scheme,
Seed Village Scheme, promotion of organic farming, and farm mechanization.
Emphasis was placed on modern agricultural techniques and improved seed quality,
resulting in increased seed replacement rates and overall agricultural development.
