Parasnath, the highest hill in Bihar, with a height
of 4,480 ft, is situated on the eastern margin of
the Hazaribagh Plateau. The hill is an abode of both
Shwetambar and Digambar Jains.
There are many beautiful Jain temples. Twenty-three
out of the twenty-four Tirthankaras are believed to
have attained salvation at Sammetasikhara of the
Parasnath Hills.
Parshvanatha, the 23rd Tirthankara, was very popular
among the tribal population of Chotanagpur. He is
identified by the snake king Dharanendra, whose
many hoods are believed to protect the meditating
