Functions of the Department
- Development of the Science, Technology and Technical Education Department and policy decisions related to all concerned subjects.
- Inter-departmental coordination in subjects related to Science, Technology and Technical Education.
- Survey, research and design in subjects related to Science, Technology and Technical Education.
- Grants to individuals and institutions engaged in survey, research and design activities.
- Supporting and coordinating applied research programmes in Universities and other institutions.
- Preparation of Departmental Plans for identified needs of the State:
(i) Application of satellite technology for land survey, flood forecasting and geological investigations.
(ii) Aerial photography and analysis for development of land, water, mineral and forest resources.
(iii) Formulation of schemes, management of teaching-learning systems and regulations for Aviation Training, Oceanic Science, Biotechnology, Nanotechnology and other emerging fields.
(iv) Regulation of Scientific and Technical Education provided by the State and other agencies.
- Administrative control of all employees of the Department.
- Administrative charge of all buildings occupied by the Department.
- Technical Education and Training.
- Matters related to the State Board of Technical Education, including its constitution, administration and control.
