About Valmikinagar

It is a village located on the India-Nepal border, 42 kilometers northwest of Bagaha, connected by a pucca road. A barrage has been constructed here on the Gandak River for irrigation purposes. Apart from the ancient Shiva temple built by the Bettiah Raj, there are also ancient temples of Nara Devi and Gauri Shankar in Valmikinagar. There is also a Valmiki Ashram here, which is said to be the residence of Maharishi Valmiki. Every year on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, a fair is organized on the banks of the Gandak River.

Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) is considered a wonderful destination for tourists, where one can enjoy trekking adventures, jungle safaris, and nightlife tourism. This forest area is home to more than 50 tigers and almost the same number of leopards. In addition, fishing cat, leopard cat, chital, sambar, deer, blackbuck, gaur, sloth bear, langur, and rhesus monkeys also reside here.

Popularly known as VTR, this area extends up to Nepal's Royal Chitwan National Park and connects to the Himalayan Terai region, making it one of the unique tourist destinations in the world. The untouched dense valleys and thick sal forests here, combined with the magnificent views of snow-capped Himalayan peaks, provide a unique tourism experience. The park is also famous as the confluence point of more than 10 rivers, including Rohua, Kotrahia, Manor, Bhabsa, Koshil, Singha, Dhongi, Ganguli, Dhoram, Sonha, and Pachnad. The enchanting flow of these rivers in the form of waterfalls while descending from hilly slopes and passes is extremely attractive.

The Gandak River, which originates in Tibet and passes through Nepal, flows through the middle of this forest area. The Harha-Masan river system also originates from the Valmiki forests and later takes the form of the Budhi Gandak River in the south.
