The Sugarcane Industries Department, Govt. of Bihar, carries forward a legacy that began with the establishment of India’s first sugar mill at Marhowrah in Saran district in 1904 and the formal creation of the Sugarcane Industries Department in 1935. From these historic beginnings, the Sugarcane Industries Department continues to shape and grow into a key driver of rural prosperity, livelihood and industrial growth, working to develop a modern, competitive, and sustainable sugarcane economy in the state. With both regulatory and developmental functions, the department is committed to enhance production of sugarcane, expanding sugar-based industries, sugar, bio-fuels (ethanol based), bio-gas, energies and other related by products to protect and support the interest of sugarcane growers through fair pricing, timely payments, and transparent systems.
